The Sin of Pride: This Lenten season, we will explore "The Seven Deadly Sins" as defined in AD 590 by Pope Gregory I. A long while ago, Pastor Robert (Bob) Hartman preached a Lenten series on the seven deadly sins. His work inspired me to research the seven deadly sins, as we know them, for this year’s Lenten preaching series. During my research, I read two particular books that provided a very unique look into these sins in our lives today and God’s response to our innermost desires to make ourselves god. The two books are: Seven: The Deadly Sins and the Beatitudes by Jeff Cook and Sinning Like a Christian: A New Look at the Seven Deadly Sins by William H. Willimon. Since the overall structure of this sermon series as well as certain information including some illustrations was inspired by these books, I would like to give credit to the men who performed the majority of the research.
