May 2022: We would like to wish our past, year-long intern, George Schrader, from the NALC who was helping us out this past year all the best in his new call as a pastor in Wisconsin. May the Holy Spirit guide him on the next portion of his ministerial journey to faithfully preach and guide those entrusted to his care. May he embrace the path set out for him and feel God’s presence in all he does.

Seeking to call a new pastor:
We are seeking to call a new Pastor for Lighthouse Lutheran Church.  We have formed a Call Committee whose function is to determine what Lighthouse is looking for in a Pastor and to interview prospective candidates.  The current Call Committee is comprised Janet, Bill, Julian, Marsha, and Grant.  These volunteers will keep the Council updated on progress which will be shared with the congregation.  Thank you to our Call Committee volunteers throughout these past months for their efforts in completing our Church Profile where you can read its contents on the bulletin board in the narthex area.  Lighthouse’s intention to call a pastor will be shared with the LCMC, NALC, Reformed Presbyterian Seminary and Trinity School for Ministry outlets and published on their respective websites.  Contact Tom Kuny 412 741-6711 if you have questions.

We believe that this is a time of great importance in our church’s history. We have been given the opportunity to seek God’s face and ask for His wisdom in determining whom He has called to be the next pastor of Lighthouse Lutheran Church. We believe that this should be a time of great excitement and enthusiasm for our church, and we know that we are in need of supernatural discernment through this process. We thank you for trusting our leadership and are asking for you to join us as we pray through this season of preparing for our next Pastor and his family. James 5:16 states, “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” With this in mind, we need to be right with God and come to Him with a clean conscience so that our prayers are not hindered. We have been seeking God’s will for our church and it is a task we do not take lightly. We covet your prayers during this season of transition and change. For that reason, we ask that you continue to pray for the Call Committee, the congregation, and the future Pastor of our church. We want to build unity and have clear knowledge of God’s will for the future Pastor. Please pray diligently for the members of our Call Committee daily. Thank you for praying as we seek wisdom and discernment of God’s will.

Compassion Ministries - Items for those in need
On the last Sunday of each month from October through March, we will be collecting new socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and scarves for the Unionville Clothes Closet (a clothing ministry for the needy). Donations can be placed in the basket in the narthex.

There is a current need in the food pantry for the following items: canned vegetables, boxes of cereal, and packaged side dishes (like Knorr).

Items for the Yellow Ribbon Girls
Beginning in April through September, we are collecting items for the Yellow Ribbon Girls (YellowRibbonGirls.com). This organization sends bibles, well wishes, cards, treats, and needed supplies to people deployed in the military. Needed items include: cards, letters, DVDs, CDs, and pictures to lift their spirits, compact bibles, granola bars, beef jerky, gum, AA batteries, microwavable food, ziplock bags, packs of crackers, microwave popcorn, ramen noodles, travel-size shampoo, packs of nuts, powdered drink mixes, and boot insoles. Donations can be placed in the basket in the narthex.

Children's Books Needed:
Our Evangelism Committee is collecting children's Christian story books, coloring books, and activity books.

Baby Items Needed:
The Evangelism committee will be accepting donations of newborn baby items to be given to new mothers in our community. Items can be new or gently used and can be anything that a newborn baby or new mother would need or use. The committee will make up gift baskets with these items and distribute them to local mothers. Suggested items include: baby clothes (newborn up to 12 months), bottles, blankets, small toys, feeding supplies, diapers, wipes, bibs, baby hygiene items, pacifiers, etc.

Monthly Blood Pressure Screening
On the first Sunday of each month, our parish nurses will be taking monthly blood pressures for anyone who is interested. Personal index cards will be provided to anyone wishing to keep track of their monthly blood pressure (strictly confidential). Feel free to contact our parish nurses for your health and wellness needs.
